"From helping local
businesses solve problems, to knowing everyone's first name,
the Downtown Boone Development Association is the organization
working behind the scenes to preserve the past and plan for
the future in the Heart of the High Country."

"The Downtown Boone
Development Association, along with local government agencies
and business owners, is helping to paint a picture of an urban
artscape project. Mary Baker, project coordinator, is hoping
to incorporate public art into downtown Boone with a long-term
goal to incorporate it into the entire town."

The
The Downtown Boone Development Association works with the Watauga
County Arts Council and the Public Art Committee to provide public
art for downtown Boone. The Public Art Program includes the addition
of sculptures, downtown gateways, streetscape improvements, and murals
in the downtown area. The residents of Boone have been promoting a
thriving arts community for years and care deeply about investing in
downtown Boone's future; public art is a fantastic way to emphasize
civic pride and downtown Boone's unique character.
The Public Art Program
receives support from the Town of Boone, the North Carolina
Arts Council, the North Carolina Chapter of the American Society
of Landscape Architects (NCASLA), and the Appalachian Regional
Commission. Currently, the program is working with artist
Kevin Eichner to display two of his works, “Meus Amor” and
“Ferreus Intumus” beside Town Hall for a period of one year.
The program has also donated funds towards the creation of
a downtown street garden behind the sculpture display area
and plans to install its first gateway into the downtown area
within the year.
